May 2000 Measurement of the Proton Structure Function F 2 at Very Low Q 2 at HERA ZEUS

چکیده
A measurement of the proton structure function F2(x,Q ) is presented in the kinematic range 0.045GeV < Q < 0.65GeV and 6 ·10 < x < 1 ·10. The results were obtained using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.9 pb in ep reactions recorded with the ZEUS detector at HERA. Information from a silicon-strip tracking detector, installed in front of the small electromagnetic calorimeter used to measure the energy of the final-state positron at small scattering angles, together with an enhanced simulation of the hadronic final state, has permitted the extension of the kinematic range beyond that of previous measurements. The uncertainties in F2 are typically less than 4%. At the low Q values of the present measurement, the rise of F2 at low x is slower than observed in HERA data at higher Q and can be described by Regge theory with a constant logarithmic slope. The dependence of F2 on Q 2 is stronger than at higher Q values, approaching, at the lowest Q values of this measurement, a region where F2 becomes nearly proportional to Q. The ZEUS Collaboration J. We report on a measurement of the proton structure function F2 in the range 3.5 × 10 ≤ x ≤ 4 × 10 and 1.5 GeV ≤ Q ≤ 15 GeV at the ep collider HERA operating at a centre-of-mass energy of √ s = 300 GeV. The rise of F2 with decreasing x observed in the previous HERA measurements persists in this lower x and Q range. The Q evolution of F2, even at the lowest Q 2 and x measured, is consistent with ...
متن کاملMEASUREMENT AND QCD-ANALYSIS OF THE PROTON STRUCTURE FUNCTION F2(x;Q2) AT HERA
New results on measurements of the proton structure function F 2 (x;Q 2) from H1 and ZEUS at HERA are presented. The data were collected in 1995 and 1996 covering the range 0:16 Q 2 90 GeV 2 and reaching values of x down to 210 ?6. Contrary to observations at values of Q 2 10 GeV 2 , the rise in F 2 with decreasing x is found to be weaker at low Q 2. Conventional NLO QCD evolution equations pro...

The structure functions and low x working group summary of DIS06. 1. Recent results from HERA We begin by discussing new results from HERA. In autumn 2003 the accelerator started the second phase of its ep collider programme (HERA-II). The e + p and e − p data collected by the H1 and ZEUS experiments since then, were taken with longitudinally polarised positron and electron beams for the first ...
